CONGRESSWOMAN JACKSON LEE ANNOUNCES $12,110,241 MILLION FEMA GRANT TO HARRIS COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS TO STORM WATER DETENTION BASIN RESOURCES ALONG PARTS OF W. GREENS ROAD WITHIN THE GREENS BAYOU WATERSHED

Jackson Lee: This $12 million grant will provide much needed flood relief to Houston area residents.

Washington, DC – October 14, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, announces a grant of over $12 million in federal funds to improve an existing storm water detention basin and provide for the construction of a new storm water detention basin. The project when completed will lower flood water surface elevations and reduce structure flooding. This action also includes stream improvement and activities to accommodate flow into and out of the proposed storm water detention basins.

The project will involve tracts of land located on the north side of Houston within the Greens Bayou Watershed. This grant will add approximately 3,219 acre-feet of storm water storage volume. The area of focus for the project is a portion of Greens Bayou approximately 2 miles along W. Greens Road from Ella Blvd. to Imperial Valley Drive that experiences significant flood damages. Funds for phase 1 were awarded on November 18, 2010, in the amount of $1,636,875.

But the work cannot stop with this grant—flooding in the Houston area in the spring was devastating and heart breaking for the thousands of residents and business owners who lost property, and especially for those who lost loved ones. I will continue to work in Washington to bring attention to the impacted flooding is having on Houston residents, while I work with Federal agencies on flood remediation and relief.”
