Sinajaña, GU – April 17, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — In line with Governor Calvo’s initiative to empower Guamanians to become self sufficient, the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority (GHURA) proudly announces that two more families have graduated from the Family SelfSufficiency (FSS) Program. Graduates of the FSS Program can become first-time homeowners, earn income to support their families, and end reliance on welfare assistance.
Under the Family Self-Sufficiency Program, families develop a five-year individual training and services plan to achieve self-sufficiency. The families receive assistance with job skills and training, job search, employment opportunities, resume writing, continuing education, homeownership counseling, and other resources and supportive services from community
partners.
Additionally, the FSS Program helps families establish a savings account that they can use towards a down payment on a home, pay for tuition fees and school supplies, or the purchase of an automobile, to name a few.
At a recent monthly meeting, the Board of Commissioners presented two families with a check ranging from $4,200.00 to $14,000.00 saved during their participation in the FSS Program.
The FSS Program Coordinator assists families with their short- and long-term goals of selfsufficiency and serves as a moral support while holding the families accountable to their goals.
