Ceremony will Occur during National Convention & Design Expo in Washington, DC
Washington, D.C. – March 15, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — The American Institute of Architects (AIA) will dedicate the 2:00 p.m. general session on Saturday, May 19th at the annual national convention to honor the architects who orchestrated rebuilding initiatives and designed the memorials following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
In addition to the inspiring stories of the rebuilding and memorial at the Pentagon and theFlight 93 National Memorial, six architects who offered their training and experience to help rebuild and memorialize Ground Zero will share their emotions, observations, and anecdotes, including Daniel Liebeskind, FAIA, David Childs, FAIA, Michael Arad, AIA, Craig Dykers, AIA, Steve Davis, FAIA, and Santiago Calatrava, FAIA.
The architects will receive a specially-cast medal commending them for their contribution to our national healing. Architect members of their teams will also be honored on stage with an AIA Presidential citation.
“We felt it was important as a profession to recognize those who demonstrate the best qualities architects hope to provide those they serve,” said AIA President, Jeff Potter, FAIA. “These architects and their teams responded to a national tragedy by applying their consummate skill and poetic vision to help repair and honor those whose lives were forever changed.
