Appraisal Institute Honors 8 National Award Winners
CHICAGO – August 3, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — John P. Fredrickson, MAI, SRA, of Walla Walla, Washington; Jerome Haims, MAI, SRA, of New York; and Richard A. Stephens, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, of Little Rock, Arkansas, were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Michael V. Tankersley, MAI, SRA, AI-RRS, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, was named the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award during the Appraisal Institute Annual Meeting Wednesday in Dallas.
Four individuals also received the annual President’s Award from the Appraisal Institute, the nation’s largest professional association of real estate appraisers with nearly 21,000 professionals in almost 60 countries.
“It was a tremendous honor to recognize these individuals for their incredible work to advance the Appraisal Institute and the valuation profession,” said Appraisal Institute President M. Lance Coyle, MAI, SRA.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an Appraisal Institute professional who demonstrates high ethical standards; has volunteered several years of service and has contributed to the Appraisal Institute on the international, national, region and/or chapter level; has served his or her community; and has contributed to the appraisal profession for at least 20 years.
Fredrickson has been active in the Appraisal Institute’s Columbia Basin Chapter, including serving as its president, and he currently chairs the chapter’s Government Relations Committee. He also has been active in government relations at the state and regional level, and he was engaged in the Appraisal Institute’s predecessor organizations.
Haims has been active in the Appraisal Institute on the chapter, regional and national levels. He has served as president of the Metropolitan New York Chapter and twice has been awarded the chapter’s “Person of the Year Award.” He served as a regional representative for the Appraisal Institute’s Region IV for five years, and was chair of the national Bylaws Committee.
Stephens has served the Appraisal Institute in a wide variety of leadership roles, including in ethics and standards counseling. He also has served on the Appraisal Institute’s policy-making Board of Directors. His national committee service has included areas such as education, strategic planning, rural valuation, demonstration report grading and other topics. He has served at the chapter and regional level as well.
The Outstanding Service Award is presented to an Appraisal Institute professional who contributed ideas, service hours and dedication to ensure a program or effort is implemented at either the chapter, region, national or international level; is instrumental in the success of the program or effort, which must be far enough along to measure and provide proof of success; and the program or effort must be beneficial to chapters, regions or national or international professionals.
Tankersley served this year as chair of the Appraisal Institute’s Leadership Development Advisory Council, leading more than 100 valuation professionals at a conference in Washington, D.C. He also has served on numerous committees within the Appraisal Institute’s Greater Tennessee Chapter and currently sits on AI’s national Education Committee.
This year’s President’s Award recipients wereKerry M. Jorgensen, MAI, of Sandy, Utah; Ruth A. Kelton of Dallas; R. Wayne Pugh, MAI, of Baton Rouge, La.; and Ken P. Wilson, MAI, SRA, of Plano, Texas. The President’s Award is presented to an Appraisal Institute professional who is committed to the organization; currently engaged in its activities; an effective spokesperson; a representative at all times; and in touch with both the needs of other AI professionals and the changes that the organization must help its professionals to meet.
