Washington, D.C. - June 12, 2012 - (RealEstateRama) -- More than 1.3 million homeowners have received foreclosure prevention counseling by local nonprofits and state housing finance agencies participating in the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling (NFMC) program administered by NeighborWorks America, one of the nation’s largest community development corporations. The latest report on the NFMC program also found that 51% percent of homeowners seeking help are women, and overall that 20% of the people being served by NFMC counselors have mortgage rates that exceed 8%. The national level for the 30-year mortgage has averaged less than 5% since April 2010.

(NHSNYC) and NeighborWorks America kick off National Homeownership Month with a mobile HomeOwnership Center beneath a 600 sq. ft. tent June 1 in Times Square that will offer consumers a one-stop information resource related to affordable and sustainable homeownership. National Homeownership Month takes place throughout June. Washington, DC - December 19, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- A report issued today by NeighborWorks America prepared by the Urban Institute on the consumer benefits of the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling (NFMC) Program shows that homeowners who received NFMC counseling were nearly twice as likely to obtain a mortgage modification and at least 67 percent more likely to remain current on their mortgage nine months after receiving one, saving servicers considerable time and expense. The data compares the results against homeowners who obtained a mortgage modification without the assistance of an NFMC foreclosure prevention counselor. The report also showed that homeowners received, on average, a mortgage modification that lowered their payment by $176 more per month, than homeowners who didn’t work with an NFMC counselor – a savings of close to $2,100 a year.
