BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT CLOSES PUBLIC LANDS NEAR CHILCOOT FIRE

Roseburg, Ore. – RealEstateRama – The Bureau of Land Management is closing public lands within the vicinity of the Chilcoot Fire, located near the Steamboat Creek and Canton Creek areas. This emergency closure order is for the safety of the public and firefighter personnel.

The closure includes the Scaredman Recreation Area, including the Day Use Area and Campground.

The closure includes all BLM managed public lands within T.24 S., R.01 W. sections 1, 2, 11, 12, 13, 14, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 35. As well as T.25S., R.01 W. sections 1, 11, 14, 23, 24, and 25.

This Order is effective at 12:01 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time) on August 31, 2023, and will remain in effect until further notice.

Members of the public may not enter closed areas, and all uses—including hiking, hunting, and camping—are prohibited.

“This closure order is necessary to protect the public from risks associated with active fire suppression and repair,” said Mike Korn, Swiftwater Field Manager. “The BLM continues to work closely with the Umpqua National Forest and the Douglas Forest Protective Association to protect public safety on the Chilcoot Fire.”

The BLM protects persons, property, and public lands and resources by temporarily closing or restricting uses on designated public lands pursuant to 43 CFR 8364.1 and 43 CFR 9268.3(d).
