Congressman Crow Delivers Over $1.6M to Support Colorado Domestic Violence Survivors
AURORA – RealEstateRama – Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06) delivered more than $1,600,000 to create two new facilities for emergency shelters with wraparound services and a transitional housing program supporting survivors of domestic violence. The funding is part of the 15 community projects Crow requested and secured through the FY24 appropriations process.
For over 40 years, Gateway has provided DV survivors a safe place through their Emergency Shelter and Extended Stay Programs and remains the only DV program serving Aurora and Arapahoe County. With DV being the leading cause of homelessness for women and families and 50% of homeless women citing DV as the cause, the need for shelter has grown. Using Crow-secured funding, the City of Aurora and Arapahoe County will construct a larger emergency to serve three times more individuals. The second phase will build a state-of-the-art transitional housing program, increasing the number of individuals served and extending their stay for successful placement into permanent housing.
“Everyone deserves a safe, violence-free home. Yet for many women and children in our community, domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness,” said Congressman Crow. “I’m grateful to work alongside our dedicated local leaders in Aurora and Arapahoe County to secure the funding needed to expand Gateway’s long-standing wraparound services and shelter capacity. Together, we’re clearing the path to safety and healing for Colorado survivors and their families.”

In 2022, Congressman Crow also secured federal funding for 15 projects. In 2023, Crow delivered those funds to the district, including over $1.2M to strengthen the youth-focused mental health workforce and expand access to behavioral health for young Coloradans in crisis, more than $11.6M to deliver safe and accessible drinking water, uplift our vulnerable and unhoused neighbors, and support new residents, and funding to support hunger relief efforts and provide stable housing and career support for unhoused Coloradans.
In May, Crow delivered over $165,000 total for the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office to acquire new dog kennels for police K9s, and for the POST Board Certified Law Enforcement Academy to help implement a program to train recruits to agency standards.
