LAS VEGAS – RealEstateRama – Congresswoman Lee (NV-03) announced her three-part plan to help lower costs and build more affordable housing during a tour of the West Sahara Senior Housing Complex. This 5-acre site, which features 171 affordable units with one- and two-bedroom apartments, elevator access, and supportive services free to residents, was made possible by federal investments that Congresswoman Lee helped secure. Over $34 million via the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit helped fund this project. Nevada faces a shortage of rent units and housing prices have risen.

Congresswoman Lee’s housing plan to help lower costs includes:

  1. Cutting government red tape and speeding up housing projects that leverage supply and demand to help drive down costs. Lee’s bipartisan AACE Act to get this done just passed the U.S. House and was endorsed by Governor Joe Lombardo. It will expand access to appraisers of federal land who are integral to approving key land transactions.
  2. Cracking down on big corporate landlords who are buying up homes and jacking up prices. Lee is fighting to pass the HOME Act to make it illegal to rent or sell a unit at an unreasonable price during a housing crisis. It’s estimated that 15% of the single-family homes in Las Vegas are owned by corporate investors and these massive corporations are trading homes likes stocks.
  3. Continuing to secure more federal investments for affordable housing projects like the West Sahara Senior Housing Complex. As southern Nevada’s voice on the House Appropriations Committee, Lee secured millions for local housing projects. The American Rescue Plan, which Lee helped get signed into law, is delivering $1 billion dollars in housing investments across Nevada. Lee also helped secure more than $175 million in federal investments this fiscal year to expand affordable housing and combat homeless in southern Nevada. These investments are supporting projects across Clark County, including several 200-unit affordable housing developments and 1,000 new senior apartments.

“My plan to lower housing costs requires that we continue to work across the aisle to deliver results for our community. It’s the reason my legislation to help lower housing costs is endorsed by Governor Joe Lombardo and why I work with my Republican colleagues in Congress every day,” said Congresswoman Lee. “It’s a major achievement to literally be standing here at West Sahara Senior Housing — a product of the federal investments I’ve helped secure for southern Nevada.”

Congresswoman Lee toured the West Sahara Senior Housing Complex with local developers, contractors, and Silver State Housing to view affordable senior housing units and services offered on site.
