CRL to join allies in honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Fair Housing Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — April 6, leaders of the Center for Responsible Lending (CRL) are in Memphis, Tenn., to participate in events honoring the 50th anniversaries of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the enactment of the Fair Housing Act.
The Memphis-based activities will begin a month-long series of CRL publicly appearing with allies and advocates to observe Fair Housing Month. Additional events will be shared as confirmed.
Wednesday, April 4, 2018 – Memphis, Tenn.
WHAT: The Jewish Labor Committee (JLC) and its co-sponsors the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and the Church of God in Christ will jointly hold a National Faith-Labor Leadership Interfaith Passover Seder
TIME: 7:15pm, Central
LOCATION: 294 Hernando Street
WHO: In cooperation with the I AM 2018 coalition and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, this JLC event will occur in the same sanctuary where Dr. King and the Memphis sanitation workers organized to secure the right to organize and bargain collectively. The kosher Seder will also combine the traditional celebration of Passover with rededication to the work, the words, and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In 2018, the Jewish holiday of Passover falls at the same time as the anniversary of Dr. King’s death. The Passover imagery and themes of the Exodus often imbued Dr. King’s words.

WHAT: 2018 National Day of Advocacy & Action – sponsored by the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA

LOCATION: Capitol Hill
WHO: CRL staff will visit various lawmaker offices to address student loans and a current resolution that proposes to ban current and future regulation of payday loans

WHAT: “Financial Inclusion and Access to Credit: America’s Dual Credit Market System and Challenges to Homeownership for Communities of Color”
TIME: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
LOCATION: Capitol Visitors Center, SVC-215
WHO: One of several events organized as part of the National Fair Housing Alliance’s FHA50 events, thought leaders will discuss issues affecting housing finance.
