The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today released the most recent data available (September 2016) on the number of District of Columbia residents hired to work at federal construction sites in the District and D.C. small businesses with subcontracts at the sites. The projects did not hire new workers during this period except for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) headquarters project at St. Elizabeths, where Grunley Construction hired an additional D.C. resident. In accordance with the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act, HUD published a Notice in the Nov. 18, 2016, Federal Register identifying Federal buildings and other real property HUD has reviewed for suitability for use to assist the homeless. The properties were reviewed using information provided to HUD by Federal landholding agencies or by GSA regarding their inventories of excess or surplus property. HOUSING NOT HANDCUFFS REPORT SHOWS INCREASE IN THE CRIMINALIZATION OF HOMELESSNESS
