Mayor Bowser and OP3 to Host DC Builds! Infrastructure Symposium

On Friday, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of Public-Private Partnerships (OP3) will host DC Builds!, a half-day forum that will bring together public officials, potential partners, policy experts, and residents to discuss the state of DC’s infrastructure and the innovative tools the District is using to more effectively build and maintain that infrastructure

MBA Honors Union Home Mortgage’s Bill Cosgrove with Woodward Distinguished Service Award

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) honored Bill Cosgrove, CMB, President and CEO of Union Home Mortgage, with its Andrew D. Woodward Distinguished Service Award. The award is presented in recognition of dedication and prominent service to MBA and the mortgage lending industry in a variety of capacities involving both legislative and regulatory activities. Cosgrove was presented the award in a ceremony held at MBA's Annual Convention & Expo in Boston, MA.

MBA Announces Inaugural Diversity & Inclusion Award Winners

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) today announced its first annual awards recognizing member companies for their leadership in diversity and inclusion. Companies were recognized in two different categories: organizational diversity & inclusion and market outreach strategies.

NCSHA RECOMMENDS FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS TO STATE FAIR HOUSING ASSESSMENT TOOL

NCSHA submitted comments to HUD on the second iteration of the proposed Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) Assessment Tool for States and Insular Areas, which HUD released for a 30-day comment period in late September. HUD initially published the proposed state assessment tool in March for a 60-day comment period, then revised the tool based on the comments it received, including those NCSHA provided in May.

NAHB Announces Best of 55+ Housing Awards Finalists

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has announced the finalists for its 2017 Best of 55+ Housing Awards, the premier design and marketing competition for the 55+ housing industry. A total of 74 entries were chosen as finalists and are eligible for either a gold or silver award from NAHB's 55+ Housing Industry Council.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced today that it is charging the Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority in Warren, Ohio with violating the Fair Housing Act by denying the reasonable accommodation requests of a family that includes a father and daughter with severe disabilities.

HUD RELEASES 3-YEAR STUDY OF STRATEGIES TO END FAMILY HOMELESSNESS

When a family with children seeks emergency shelter, there are a number of interventions to address their homelessness.  Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the results of an exhaustive study to identify the most efficient and cost-effective ways to house and serve these families.  After tracking more than 2,200 families over a three-year period, HUD found that a long-term subsidy, typically a Housing Choice Voucher, led to far better outcomes for reducing family homelessness and improving family well-being

FHA TO LOWER OWNER-OCCUPANCY REQUIREMENT FOR CERTAIN CONDOMINIUM DEVELOPMENTS

The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) today announced that, under certain circumstances, it will lower its required owner-occupancy standard for approved condominium developments effective immediately. FHA currently requires that approved condominium developments have a minimum of 50 percent of the units occupied by owners. However, the agency determined this requirement can be lowered to 35 percent for existing condo developments provided the project meets certain conditions.
