HUD ANNOUNCES NEW HOUSING COUNSELING CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced it will require that housing counselors participating in HUD programs to be certified to offer counseling services to consumers. VA Announces Funding Opportunity for Community Partners Working to End Veteran Homelessness
Building on President Obama’s commitment to end Veteran homelessness, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is announcing the availability of funding for non-profit organizations and other groups that serve Veterans through VA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. The SSVF program assists very low-income Veteran families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. These SSVF grants are available to current grantees seeking renewals and make new funding available for eight high-need communities.
Final EPA Study Concludes That Fracking Operations Can Contaminate Drinking Water
In a final report issued today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency concluded that fracking operations can impact drinking water “at each stage in the hydraulic fracturing water cycle”. The report walks back from a misleading summary statement that fracking poses “no widespread, systemic risks” to drinking water.

November New Home Purchase Mortgage Applications Increase 12 Percent Year over Year
The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) Builder Applications Survey (BAS) data for November 2016 shows mortgage applications for new home purchases increased 12 percent relative to November 2015. Compared to October 2016, applications decreased by 3 percent relative to the previous month. This change does not include any adjustment for typical seasonal patterns.
