Government Receives a “D” on Report Card in Response to Homelessness
The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty (the Law Center) issued Grading the U.S. Response to Homelessness, its annual report card on the human right to housing in the U.S. The report card praises the progress of the federal government this year in addressing the criminalization of homelessness and in some areas to promote fair housing, but condemns its ongoing failure to stem the tide of homelessness by ensuring adequate, affordable housing is available to all, resulting in an overall grade of “D.”

NMHC Supports Industry Initiative to Help Relieve Homelessness
The National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC), which represents the leadership of the $1.3 trillion apartment industry, has chosen Shelters to Shutters as their designated beneficiary charity for 2017. Shelters to Shutters (S2S) is a national 501(c)3 organization that transitions individuals and families from homelessness to economic self-sufficiency by educating and engaging the real estate industry to provide employment and housing opportunities. NMHC and its members have raised more than $1.3 million for charities since 2012
GSA Awards Construction Contract for New Federal Courthouse
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded the construction contract for the new U.S. Courthouse in San Antonio, Texas to White Construction Company. The new federal courthouse will provide the Judiciary with a newly constructed 305,000 gross square foot facility with inside parking spaces located at the former City Police Headquarters site, 214 West Nueva Street in San Antonio, Texas.
NAHB Announces Finalists for Best of IBS Awards
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has announced the finalists for its fifth annual Best of IBS Awards for the 2017 International Builders' Show (IBS) in Orlando, Fla. Over 400 entries in nine categories were judged by 27 industry and media representatives. Finalists were evaluated on criteria such as innovation, functionality and design. Winners in each category, as well as a Best Overall winner, will be named at the conclusion of the show on Jan. 12.

Bipartisan WIIN Act Passes House
The House passed the “Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act” (WIIN) by a vote of 360-61. Provisions from the House Committee on Natural Resources included in the bill will bring drought relief for California and the West, by expanding water storage and delivery, and bring forth long-term water resolutions to Indian reservations.
