DeGette, Johnston announce $2.5 million grant to address youth homelessness
WASHINGTON, D.C. – RealEstateRama – U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston announced that Denver is set to receive $2,580,526 to address youth homelessness. The funding is awarded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) to support a wide range of housing programs.
“I’m thankful to the Department of Housing and Urban Development for investing in the lives of young people in Denver,” said Rep. DeGette. “This funding will have a huge impact for our city and change the lives of youth experiencing homelessness – setting them on a new course and helping to give them a fresh start. By partnering federal resources with local expertise, we can help those experiencing homelessness and build a stronger community.”
“We have a moral obligation to make sure all Denverites have access to housing,” said Mayor Mike Johnston. “Our children are Denver’s most precious resource, and it’s critical we set them up for lifetime success despite their current resources. We are grateful for the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Rep. DeGette for congressional support of our quest to provide housing for all Denverites.”
The goal of the YHDP is to support selected communities in the development and implementation of a coordinated community approach to preventing and ending youth homelessness. YHDP recipients will use their funding to address youth homelessness that is specifically tailored to their needs, including funding for housing units, wrap-around services, and housing support.
