WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — Canoe portage to remain accessible as much as possible during project, and AuSable River Canoe Marathon will be uninterrupted
Crews will be completing a Consumers Energy project to stabilize the Au Sable River bottom just downstream from Alcona Dam from July 11 to August 12.
“The canoe portage at Alcona Dam will remain accessible during the course of this enhancement project for recreational users as much as possible,” said Rich Castle, Consumers Energy’s natural resource administrator for hydro operations. “It’s possible the work will be completed before the AuSable River Canoe Marathon begins. However, we understand the significance of the competition, which we are sponsoring this year, and we will work with our contractor to suspend work during the July 30-31 race weekend if needed to make sure to minimize any disturbance of Marathon activities.”
Access to the canoe portage near the dam will be kept open during project activity for recreational users, as long it can be done safely. Signs will clearly mark the project location.
