Enterprise Homes, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, and Baltimore County Celebrate Grand Opening of The Greens at Liberty Road Senior Apartments
Northwest Baltimore County development provides green, affordable apartments for seniors
RANDALLSTOWN, MD – June 9, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, Baltimore County Councilman Kenneth N. Oliver, District 4, and other federal, state and local dignitaries today joined Enterprise Homes, Inc. at a ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of The Greens at Liberty Road Senior Apartments. Located on the Liberty Road corridor, the newly constructed $15.6 million development is comprised of 81 one-bedroom and 24 two-bedroom apartments, 12 of which are fully accessible and three units with features for sensory impaired seniors. The development was certified as meeting the requirements of the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria.
“Enterprise Homes is delighted to stand here today with our partners as we commemorate the grand opening of this beautiful community in Randallstown,” said Chickie Grayson, president and CEO, Enterprise Homes, Inc. “However, what is truly exhilarating about this day is not the bricks and mortar, it’s knowing that 105 senior households will benefit from living in quality homes that are safe, sustainable, accessible and most importantly affordable. Senior populations are among the most vulnerable, and the Greens at Liberty Road exemplifies Enterprise Homes’ commitment to providing critically needed housing for these individuals.”
The development was thoughtfully designed to respect the residential and commercial nature of the Liberty Road corridor. The building is integrated into the residential fabric of the surrounding neighborhood through the variation of its exterior materials and massing. Its highly reflective flat roof contributes to the building’s aesthetic while also acting as a prominent green and sustainable feature. Other green and sustainable features included in the property are energy-star HVAC systems, appliances and windows, low- VOC paint, “green” label carpet and water-conserving plumbing fixtures.
“More and more, when our senior citizens choose to downsize, they want to stay right in the Baltimore County community they’ve called home for years,” said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. “This beautiful new development in the heart of Randallstown is a welcome addition that will serve the community well.”
The Greens at Liberty Road contains a wide array of amenities including a multi-purpose room, fitness center, media center, sewing room, on-site laundry facilities and a computer room with free internet access. The outdoor amenities include a walking path that allows residents to actively enjoy the site’s natural features, an outdoor patio, a covered entry porch, and an informal “quiet garden.” Residents of the development also have convenient access to retail, health care providers, a bustling senior center, and a state-of-the-art recreation center.
Financing for The Greens at Liberty Road was provided by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development and Baltimore County. Enterprise Community Investment, Inc. provided a lowincome housing tax credit equity investment and permanent mortgage debt financing through the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Federal Housing Administration program; and Enterprise Community Partners provided an Enterprise Green Communities grant to support the development’s sustainable features. The property is managed by Habitat America, LLC., who oversees a resident service plan for the community.
