FORT WORTH HOUSING AUTHORITY IN CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 33 RECEIVES OVER $500,000 IN FEDERAL HOUSING FUNDING
$269,856 Awarded to FWHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency Program and $250,000 Emergency Capital Funds to go to Butler Place Public Housing Community
Fort Worth – March 14, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) announced the awarding of over $500,000 federal funds to the Fort Worth Housing Authority (FWHA). The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $250,000 in Emergency Capital Funds to FWHA, which will be used to improve the safety and security at Butler Place Public Housing Community. Another $269,856 will go to the Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program that assists families with supportive services.
Upon news of this federal funding, Congressman Marc Veasey stated, “The Fort Worth Housing Authority serves thousands of families, seniors and disabled persons. The awarding of over $500,000 means that safe, affordable housing and supportive services will be made available to families in the Metroplex. In this time of steep proposed budget cuts, I am fighting to ensure that the 33rd Congressional District receives critical federal funding for housing, education, health care, and jobs. I applaud HUD for investing in Fort Worth and thank the Fort Worth Housing Authority for their work in meeting the community’s critical housing needs.”
“With HUD’s $250,000 Emergency Capital Fund Award, FWHA will install surveillance cameras, enhancing security for residents and serving as a deterrent for criminal activities within the Butler Housing Community,” said Barbara Holston, President and CEO of FWHA. “The Housing Choice Voucher Family Self- Sufficiency Program grant in the amount of $269,856 will be used to continue assisting families to obtain employment and receive other supportive services that lead to economic independence and self-sufficiency,” she said. “Both grants are timely and will be instrumental in assisting FWHA in its mission to serve the citizens of Fort Worth.”
The Fort Worth Housing Authority is one of five recipients in the 33rd Congressional District to receive funding for the Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency Program. Other awardees include Dallas County, the Housing Authority of the City of Arlington, Tarrant County Housing Assistance Office and the Housing Authority of the City of Dallas.
FWHA develops, owns and operates quality affordable and accessible housing that provides
assistance to citizens of Fort worth utilizing various federal, state and local programs. Currently, FWHA owns 1,375 public housing units, 2,202 affordable housing units, 525 market-rate units, administers more that 6,000 housing vouchers and operates two homeownership programs.
