EPA Awards $149,000 to Protect Air and Water Quality in Ohio

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $149,000 in three separate grants to protect air and water quality in Ohio. “EPA funding for Ohio programs to reduce air pollution and protect underground water sources demonstrates our commitment to cooperative federalism,” said EPA Region 5 Administrator Cathy Stepp. “By working together, we can provide better environmental results.”

Mayor Martin J. Walsh broke ground on phase one of a comprehensive redevelopment of the WhittierStreet public housing community. Made possible by a $30 million federal Choice Neighborhoods Initiative grant to the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) and City of Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development, the entire project will rebuild and preserve 200 existing public housing apartments by replacing them on- and off-site with an expanded program of 509 units of mixed-income rental housing and 14,225 square feet of commercial space.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke today announced a $60 million cooperative agreement with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) to help retain and recruit recreational anglers and boaters of all ages. Zinke is also announcing $14 million in Boating Infrastructure Grants (BIG), which support water-related outdoor recreation and tourism by improving facilities for large transient recreational boats across the country.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today awarded $615,922,000 to help hard-hit areas in the State of Florida to recover from Hurricane Irma. The grant announced today by the Trump Administration is provided through HUD's Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program and will support the repair of damaged homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure in the state.

NeighborWorks America (formally known as the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corp.) announced that it awarded $800,000 in grants to 20 organizations in communities affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. The nonprofits will use the grants to help meet any emerging on-the-ground needs, such as cleaning up properties, providing supplies to affected households, coordinating disaster response with other partners, supporting mobile intake centers, and rehabbing and repairing damaged buildings.
