The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) today announced the formation of the Midwest State Committee in an effort to expand its education and advocacy efforts in the region.

Experiencing its biggest growth year yet, the solar industry in the United States now employs more than 260,000 Americans, according to The Solar Foundation's seventh annual National Solar Jobs Census released today.

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) announced today plans to extend the Commonwealth’s successful Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC 2) program further into 2017 along with a new proposal for a long-term replacement of the program. Since its inception, the SREC 2 program has led Massachusetts to more than 1,600 megawatts of solar development and supported thousands of local jobs, economic investments and a healthier environment for Bay State families and businesses.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) today announced the winners of its Best in Green Awards at a ceremony during the International Builders’ Show. For the third year, these green awards have been incorporated into many of NAHB’s other honors, including the Best in American Living Awards, The Nationals, Best of 55+ Housing Awards, Pillars of the Industry Awards and Jerry Rouleau Awards for Excellence. Winners of any green or sustainable award in any of these programs were automatically entered for consideration for a Best in Green Award

The United States solar market just shattered all previous quarterly solar photovoltaic (PV) installation records. According to GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association’s (SEIA) Q4 2016 U.S. Solar Market Insight report, 4,143 megawatts (MW) of solar PV were installed in the U.S. in the third quarter of the year, a rate of one MW every 32 minutes. That pace is even faster today, as the fourth quarter will surpass this past quarter’s historic total.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy announced AquaHarmonics as the winner of the Wave Energy Prize – which comes with a $1.5 million grand prize. CalWave Power Technologies and Waveswing America were awarded second and third place, respectively, with $500,000 and $250,000 in cash prizes.

The USGBC Board of Directors announced today that Mahesh Ramanujam has completed the transition into his new role as president and CEO of USGBC, effective Nov. 4, 2016. He will also serve as president and CEO of USGBC’s sister organization, GBCI. Formerly USGBC’s COO, Ramanujam takes the reins from Rick Fedrizzi, USGBC’s founding chair, who had previously announced plans to leave the organization toward the end of 2016.
