Washington, D.C. – (August 7, 2015) – Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction & Real Estate and theU.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) are excited to announce indie soul/pop band Fitz and The Tantrums will headline the 2015 Greenbuild Celebration, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, from 7-10 p.m. at the Newseum, an interactive museum, in Washington, D.C.
“We are excited to end this year’s Greenbuild with Fitz & The Tantrums. Their music combined with the ambiance of the Newseum is the perfect setting for a festive celebration of another successful Greenbuild,” said Lindsay Roberts, Greenbuild show director, Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction & Real Estate.
New this year, the Greenbuild Celebration will take place separately from the Opening Plenary, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 8-10 a.m. The Celebration will begin with a networking reception and end with the band’s performance.
“The Greenbuild Celebration and musical entertainment is one of the highlights of the conference for the thousands of attendees who join us from around the globe each year,” said Kate Hurst, vice president, community engagement, conferences and events, USGBC. “Fitz & The Tantrums will bring a fun, energetic performance to the Newseum as we celebrate our industry and those who lead it.”
Fitz and The Tantrums is comprised of Fitz (vocals), Noelle Scaggs (vocals/tambourine), James King (saxophone), Jeremy Ruzumna (keyboards), John Wicks (drums) and Joseph Karnes (bass). In 2009, they self-released an EP entitled Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1 and soon were appearing on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” and touring with Maroon 5. Their full-length debut Pickin’ Up the Pieces(2010), spent 73 weeks on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, peaking at No. 1, and they were named a “You Oughta Know” artist by VH1.
Their second full-length release on Atlantic/Elektra Records, More Than Just a Dream (2013), burst with danceable hooks,” said The New York Times while USA Today noted, “the Los Angeles sextet is more than ready for the big leagues.”
“[More Than Just A Dream] folds neon-tinted synthesizers and arena-scaled hooks into Fitz’s fiery trademark funk to create a big, bright new groove,” said Rolling Stone and Paste praised it as the kind of album “where every single track wants to be a single, even the ballads; the kind that gets catchier and weirder with every spin.”
“Michael ‘Fitz’ Fitzpatrick understands what makes a good song…And co-vocalist Noelle Scaggs’ charisma overflows,” observed the Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post observed, “their live show is captivatingly crazy.” Fitz and The Tantrums two singles from More Than Just a Dream, “The Walker” and “Out Of My League,” have each been certified Gold. Both topped Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart — a feat accomplished by only three other artists in the chart’s 25-year history.
“We’re honored to have the opportunity to bring awareness to the important issue of sustainability and look forward to headlining this year’s Greenbuild Celebration,” said Fitz and The Tantrums. “We always aim to do our part to shine a light on the issues that mean the most to us, and we’re committed to promoting energy-saving initiatives that will protect the environment.”
