10:00 AM – NAREE University – The Price Paid – Glenn Cook, the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s executive editor, will share his thoughts about the tragic murder of LVRJ investigative reporter, Jeff German. Introduction by NAREE Vice President Eli Segall, Las Vegas Review Journal.

Noon – 1:00 PM – NAREE University – Real Estate and Non Fiction Book Writing Luncheon Forum: Agents and Authors – This key NAREE U session is geared toward prospective authors and authors of books spanning the very broad field of real estate from home buying and selling to real estate development, interior design, architecture, remodeling, home building, etc. Panelists include agent, Charlotte Gusay, The Gusay Literary Agency, author and journalist with the Globe & Mail, Josh O’Kane and author Sheri Koones. 8:30 AM – NAREE University – Getting Started on YouTube – Presenter: Nate Chute, a leader in developing visual strategy to grow audience and revenue with the USA Today Network – Gannett. Moderator: NAREE President Jason Hidalgo, Reno Gazette-Journal.

Noon – NAREE University – New Media Species – What tweaks are planned for older new media and what new platforms are here or on the horizon? A great session for both journalists who want to stay on staff (where they are or somewhere else) and freelancers reinventing their beats as real estate sections disappear. Moderator: Past President Ralph Bivins, Really News Report.

Thursday, June 8

8:30 AM – NAREE University – Social Media Musts – NAREE Board Member Cameron Sperance, The Points Guy and freelance real estate writer will moderate a session with University of Las Vegas Professor Benjamin Morse and an expert from PicMonkey.

Noon – NAREE University – Investigative and Watchdog Reporting – Investigative Reporter Michael Scott Davidson, Newsweek, and other award-winning journalists on uncovering data and reporting on housing and more. Moderator: Past President Jeff Collins, Orange County Register.

NAREE offers a networking press room the Java Cafe for working remotely on quick projects and a quiet press room, the Zen Tea Room for those who need to work without interruption — both on the meeting room level.

Journalists are also also invited to be a panelist on NAREE’s Meet the Press,which runs on Awards Day, Thursday, June 8 at 3:45 PM. Now in its 26th year, MTP is NAREE’s one-on-one speed networking session where journalist panelists meet those who want to pitch them in a series of 3-minute appointments for 90 minutes. NAREE past president Sue Doerfler will be emailing journalists with details. Conferees can only sign up for MTP in Las Vegas beginning Tuesday, June 8,

NAREE’s prestigious Journalism Awards Presentation begins with a winner-only Red Carpet Reception at 6:15 PM on Thursday, June 8 at Caesars. Awards will be presented at 7:30 PM in the Milano Balllrooms 3,4,7,8. (If you can’t come please let us know. A press release on the awards will be posted on naree.org after 9 PM Pacific Time on June 8. Certificates will be mailed in mid June.)

NAREE Announces 72nd Annual Real Estate Journalism Competition Award Winners

Atlanta, GA – (October 13, 2022) – The National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE) announced the winners of its 72nd Annual Journalism Awards today. The competition recognizes excellence in reporting, writing, and editing stories about residential and commercial real estate. The awards were announced at NAREE’s annual conference, held in Atlanta at the Westin Buckhead hotel. A panel of expert judges from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University selected all winners. Medill Assistant Professor Ceci Rodgers chaired the panel. The jurors decided to honor a team of journalists from The Miami Herald with a Platinum Award for Best Investigative Report for their work on the Surfside tragedy. This is the first time a Platinum Award has been given to honor team work in NAREE’s contest.
