Hoeven: FEMA Awards More Than $3.1 Million to City of Minot Water Treatment Plant for Flood Protection
WASHINGTON – December 01, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Senator John Hoeven today announced that the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded more than $3.1 million to the City of Minot through its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). Hoeven serves as the chairman for the Senate Appropriations Committee on Homeland Security, where he oversees the department’s annual budget.
The funds will be used to support the construction of a floodwall and to update infrastructure to protect Minot’s water treatment plant from the Mouse River and maintain the plant’s ability to provide potable water to residents during high water events.
“Since the flood of 2011, we have worked hard to ensure that the City of Minot receives the support it needs to rebuild and also to protect itself against future flooding,” Hoeven said. “This grant will play an important role in Minot’s ongoing efforts to recover, and I will continue working on the federal level for disaster aid that will help the city secure protective infrastructure so that we can mitigate the impact of flooding in the future.”
Through his role on the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, Hoeven has worked extensively to ensure the grant funding for the City of Minot was authorized and appropriated.
