WASHINGTON - June 19, 2014 - (RealEstateRama) -- U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan today announced a second round of grants totaling $140 million to nearly 900 local homeless assistance programs across the country (see attached chart). Provided through HUD’s Continuum of Care Program,  the funding announced today will ensure additional permanent and transitional housing renewal projects are able to continue operating in the coming year, providing critically needed housing and support services to those persons and families experiencing homelessness.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - June 17, 2014 - (RealEstateRama) -- The VA Homeless Patient Aligned Care Team Program, H-PACT, was established in January 2012 to provide a coordinated “medical home” specifically tailored to the needs of homeless veterans. Interdisciplinary teams of doctors, nurses, and case managers respond to the ongoing and evolving medical, mental health, and substance abuse needs of homeless veterans entering the VA system. The program serves as a conduit for treatment engagement and involvement in VA Homeless Program and clinical services and supports through a “no wrong door” policy. It is designed to provide the care necessary to keep veterans in housing and prevent a return to homelessness

McKinney Homeless Assistance Act, HUD published a Notice in the June 13, 2014, Federal Register identifying Federal buildings and other real property HUD has reviewed for suitability for use to assist the homeless. The properties were reviewed using information provided to HUD by Federal landholding agencies or by GSA regarding their inventories of excess or surplus property. The list includes buildings and properties in Maryland, Michigan, New York, West Virginia and Wisconsin

Sacramento - June 16, 2014 - (RealEstateRama) -- On any given night roughly 16,000 veterans in California have no place to call home; they sleep in parks, under bridges, in their cars, in emergency shelters or on a friend’s couch. NEW ORLEANS,LA - May 2, 2014 - (RealEstateRama) -- Today, UNITY of Greater New Orleans announced that homelessness in Orleans and Jefferson parishes dropped 15 percent over the past year. Chronic homelessness dropped even further, by 30 percent, according to UNITY, a collaborative of more than 60 agencies working to prevent and solve homelessness in the two parishes.

Unaccompanied youth live on their own, without a parent or other adult guardian, and are under age 25. According to HUD’s 2013 Point-in-Time Estimate of Homelessness, over 45,000 unaccompanied youth experience homelessness on a given night.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - April 17, 2014 - (RealEstateRama) -- On April 14, 2013, the U.S. Department of Labor Veterans' Employment and Training Service (DOL-VETS) announced the availability of up to $6 million to fund 24 or more Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) grants. Approximately 2,000 veterans will receive job training and related services to help them succeed in civilian careers. HVRP is the only federal program that focuses exclusively on the employment of veterans who are homeless.
