HOUSING AUTHORITY LAUNCHES $2.7 MILLION HUD JOBS PLUS PROGRAM AND GRAND OPENING WITH DOZENS OF NONPROFIT PARTNERS TO IMPROVE EMPLOYMENT AND EARNINGS OUTCOMES FOR PUBLIC HOUSING RESIDENTS

Sacramento was one of only eight housing authorities nationwide to receive the grant

WASHINGTON – (RealEstateRama) — WHAT: Sacramento City Council Member Steve Hansen, County Supervisor Phil Serna, SHRA Executive Director La Shelle Dozier and other local and federal officials and representatives will participate in the official launch for $2.7 million HUD Jobs Plus Pilot Program.

WHY: The Jobs Plus Pilot Program is a promising opportunity to engage, inform, coach and connect residents of public housing with stable employment, and to assist residents in accomplishing economic self-sufficiency. The program also emphasizes employer services, financial incentives and community support.

The City of Sacramento Housing Authority was awarded a $2.7 million grant from HUD for the Jobs Plus Pilot Program as part of a $100 million investment in locally-based programs aimed to increase earnings and advance employment outcomes for residents of public housing through work readiness programs, employer linkages, job placement, and financial literacy.

Sacramento Housing Authority was one of only eight recipients nationwide. The grant will greatly enhance its efforts to break down barriers to employment for residents of the Marina Vista and Alder Grove public housing communities where over 50 percent of the residents age 18 – 64 are able to work yet are unemployed. As lead administrator of the program, Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency has engaged over 40 partners to provide resources for the program leveraging over $3.7 million.

Key partners include City of Sacramento, County of Sacramento, United Way, Sacramento Employment and Training Agency, Valley Vision, Sacramento Resident Advisory Board, Urban League, WEAVE, Inc., Francis House Center, Center for Employment Training, Goodwill, GRID Alternatives, Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps, ACE and Asian Resources Inc.
