HUD, REBUILDING TOGETHER HOSTS MULTIPLE EVENTS ADDRESSING UNSAFE HOUSING

Events in Nashville will highlight the importance of safe and healthy housing

NASHVILLE – May 23, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Unsafe or unhealthy living conditions at home account for many of the leading causes of preventable fatalities, illnesses and disabilities in the United States today. Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit, is raising awareness and demonstrating the positive impact of safe and healthy housing by joining U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), HGTV and DIY Network, Lowe’s and other sponsors and volunteers in a series of events throughout Nashville.

The following is a list of events hosted by Rebuilding Together in Nashville, May 28-31:

  • National Healthy Homes Conference
    • Between Wednesday, May 28 and Friday, May 30 over 1,000 attendees are expected at this year’s National Healthy Homes Conference at the Music City Center (201 5th Ave South), co-hosted by Rebuilding Together and HUD and sponsored by National Center for Healthy Housing, Healthy Housing Solutions, Green and Healthy Homes Initiative and Neighborworks America. The Conference, titled Leading the Nation to Healthy Homes, Families and Communities, will bring together housing and health professionals from the public and private sectors to share new research and emerging trends, as well as to inform housing policy to help prevent and remediate unsafe housing conditions for families.

  • Building A Healthy Neighborhood Rebuild Project
    • Demonstrating our commitment to safe and healthy homes, Rebuilding Together will lead a major three-day rebuilding effort in the neighborhoods of Cleveland Park and McFerrin Park Neighborhoods (322 Cleveland St) in East Nashville. The rebuild event is in conjunction with HUD’s National Healthy Homes Conference. Rebuilding Together Nashville is the host of our 4th Building a Healthy Neighborhood, hundreds of volunteers will come together Thursday, May 29 through Saturday, May 31 to work on 15 homes owned by low-income families, install a new playground, and revitalize the neighborhoods in East Nashville. The diverse community is energized to revitalize their homes and restore the neighborhood.

  • What Home Means To Me, a Story Tellers Show
    • Every home has a story; find out What Home Means to 19 Recordings/Columbia Nashville Artist Casey James and Country Music Artist Ayla Brown at a special musical event in support of Rebuilding Together Friday, May 30, 8:30-10p.m. at the Hard Rock Café, Reverb Room (100 Broadway St). Presented by HGTV and DIY Network, hosted by DIY Network stars Chris Grundy and Matt Muenster. *Pre-registration is required.

  • Tradesperson of the Year Campaign Launch
    • Rebuilding Together’s Tradesperson of the Year, presented by Lowe’s, is our way of saying thank you to the skilled tradespeople who volunteer their time and talent in service to the community. On Saturday May 31 at 8:30a.m. HGTV and DIY Network star Chris Grundy kicks off the campaign at the Building a Healthy Neighborhood volunteer welcome (322 Cleveland St). The nominating process opens Saturday, and the winner will be announced in October at the Remodeling Show and Deck Expo in Baltimore. The winner of this national campaign will receive a $5,000 Lowe’s gift card.
