HUD Secretary Castro Meets with Democratic Whip Task Force on Poverty, Income Inequality, and Opportunity

WASHINGTON, DC – May 20, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Julián Castro, joined the Democratic Whip Task Force on Poverty, Income Inequality, and Opportunity for a meeting to discuss efforts to expand safe, quality, and affordable housing and his vision for HUD’s role in eliminating poverty. During the discussion, Secretary Castro discussed the need for full funding for HUD programs, such as Community Development Block Grant Funds and Promise Zones.

“I thank Secretary Castro for joining the Task force today to discuss how HUD is working to expand access to housing, help more Americans attain homeownership, and alleviate poverty in our communities,” stated Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer. “Though our economy is improving, the housing market was hit hard by the economic recession and many Americans still aren’t feeling the recovery. That’s why, as the Task Force continues to identify and advocate for policies to help Americans rise into the middle class, we will be partnering closely with the Administration to expand access to safe, affordable housing and create new economic opportunities for the most vulnerable Americans.”
