HUD AWARDS $42 MILLION IN HOUSING COUNSELING GRANTS
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today awarded more than $42 million in housing counseling grants to hundreds of national, regional and local organizations to help families and individuals with their housing needs and to prevent future foreclosures. HUD’s housing counseling grants and the additional funding they leverage will assist more than 1.4 million households find housing, make more informed housing choices, or keep their current homes. HUD NAMES NEW MOVING TO WORK ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today named 15 persons to a new federal research advisory committee charged with offering independent advice to HUD on how to approach specific aspects of the seven-year expansion of the Department’s Moving to Work (MTW) Demonstration.

HUD ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH FIRST-CITIZENS BANK & TRUST COMPANY TO RESOLVE FAIR LENDING COMPLAINT
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced an agreement with First-Citizens Bank & Trust Company, resolving allegations that the bank denied mortgage loans to African American, Latino and Asian American mortgage applicants at a disproportionately higher rate than white applicants.

HUD AND VA TEAM UP TO FIND PERMANENT HOMES FOR 5,200 VETERANS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
To help end veteran homelessness, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) are awarding nearly $38 million to help more than 5,200 homeless veterans find a permanent place to call home. The rental assistance announced today is provided through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program which combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by VA.
HUD NAMES NEW HOUSING COUNSELING FEDERAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today named 12 persons who will constitute the first-ever Housing Counseling Federal Advisory Committee (HCFAC). Established under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010, this advisory panel will help HUD’s Office of Housing Counseling improve upon all the efforts to provide consumers with the knowledge they need to make informed and lasting housing decisions.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Census Bureau jointly announced the following new residential construction statistics for April 2016. Privately owned housing units authorized by building permits in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,116,000. This is 3.6 percent (±1.3%) above the revised March rate of 1,077,000, but is 5.3 percent (±1.3%) below the April 2015 estimate of Single-family authorizations in April were at a rate of 736,000; this is 1.5 percent (±0.8%) above the revised March figure of 725,000.
HUD PROPOSES RULE REQUIRING INSTALLATION OF BROADBAND TECHNOLOGY DURING CONSTRUCTION OF MOST HUD-FINANCED MULTIFAMILY HOUSING
In an effort to extend affordable internet access to children and families living in federally assisted housing, U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro today proposed a rule to require the installation of broadband infrastructure into most HUD-financed multifamily housing developments during their construction or substantial rehabilitation. JIM REED NAMED HUD NEW ENGLAND REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR
U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julian Castro today named Jim Reed to serve as HUD’s New England Regional Administrator. As the former Executive Director for the Housing Authority of the City of Newport, Rhode Island, Reed will manage HUD’s operations for a six-state region that includes Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
HUD LAUNCHES IMPROVED MANUFACTURED HOUSING DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROGRAM
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced new tools to help consumers and the manufactured housing industry to resolve disputes involving the purchase and installation of manufactured housing. HUD’s Office of Manufactured Housing Programs (OMHP) is unveiling a new website and other education tools to help homeowners, manufacturers, retailers and installers to navigate the dispute resolution process in those states that do not have their own process.
