WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — Extending its dialogue on international housing policy, representatives from the International Housing Association (IHA) participated in Habitat III, the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, where new global housing standards were set. The meeting took place Oct. 17-20 in Quito, Ecuador.
“The IHA is pleased to have participated in Habitat III to be a part of the discussion and solution for issues impacting nations across the globe,” said Kevin Lee, chairman of IHA and CEO of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. “So many of the issues discussed at Habitat III are priorities of the IHA as well, including housing affordability, social housing, sustainability and energy-efficiency to name just a few.”
Held every 20 years, one of the primary goals of the meeting is to focus on implementing the New Urban Agenda, which is intended to set global standards of achievement in sustainable urban development, and rethink the way we build, manage and live in cities, by bringing together stakeholders and partners in both the public and private sectors.
“What we learned at Habitat III will inform our dialogue at the IHA as we share and build on it with our membership,” said Lee. “We continue working with IHA members on their international housing needs and we encourage prospective members to learn about how IHA can help them in their home countries.”
For over 30 years, IHA has provided a unique housing policy and solutions forum, bringing together leaders of the housing sector from countries around the world. IHA’s growing membership spans nations from six continents, including both developed and developing countries. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) serves as the Secretariat of IHA.
