International Trade Administration and The American Institute Of Architects to Lead Trade Mission to India
October 14-19, 2012 Trade Mission to Highlight U.S. Architecture Services
Washington, D.C. – May 18, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — The International Trade Administration and The American Institute of Architects are organizing an Architecture Services Trade Mission to India from October 14 to 19, 2012. The mission will introduce U.S. firms to India’s rapidly expanding market for architectural services, and help U.S. companies in their pursuit of new Indian partners.
“This trade mission will help innovative U.S. architectural design firms develop new business that will support jobs and economic growth in both our countries,” said Francisco J. Sánchez, Under Secretary for International Trade. “India requires significant outside expertise to meet its ambitious targets, and U.S. industry is well qualified to supply the kinds of architectural services and project management skills needed to successfully tackle major initiatives.”
The mission to India will include representatives from leading small or medium-sized enterprises (SME) U.S. architectural services companies that provide state-of-the-art and world class designs. Targeted sectors holding high potential for U.S exporters include master planning, regional and neighborhood design, as well as architecture for ports, hospitals, health care facilities, airports and other transportation infrastructure, mixed-use projects, and architectural services.
The mission will visit Chennai, Kolkata (Calcutta) and Bangalore, where participants will receive market briefings and participate in customized meetings with key Indian officials and prospective partners. Mission participants will also have the option of making additional stops at Mumbai, Ahmedabad and New Delhi, where ITA’s U.S. Commercial Service can arrange meetings with both private sector developers and state and local government officials.
“American architects are pre-eminent in the world, and their talent and expertise are in high demand in many of the fastest-growing global markets,” said AIA President Jeff Potter, FAIA. “This trade mission aims to help build America’s competitiveness by raising the profile of U.S. innovative design in worldwide markets.”
India, one of the world’s fastest growing economies, is seeking to invest $1 trillion in its infrastructure during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-2017) and is looking for private sector investment to fund half of this massive expansion. The rapid growth of the Indian economy—averaging 8 percent over the past 10 years—has created a pressing need for infrastructure development and the country requires significant outside expertise to meet its goals.
The mission supports President Obama’s National Export Initiative (NEI) and his goal of doubling U.S. exports by the end of 2014.
