Public/Private Partnership between Hanover Pacific, Western University of Health Sciences, Provident Resources Group & City of Pomona Adds 305 Beds for Graduate Students

IRVINE, CALIF. – September 24, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) – Award-winning national architecture and planning firm KTGY Group, Inc. and student housing developer, Hanover Pacific, LLC, announce the opening of the Daumier at Western University of Health Sciences, a $45-million 173,000-square-foot urban mixed-use graduate student housing community. Located on 3.6 acres adjacent to the WesternU campus in Pomona, Calif., the four-story building includes 305 beds as well as 10,000 square feet of academic space for WesternU, a private, non-profit graduate school for health professions.

Designed to achieve LEED for Homes Silver certification or higher (www.usgbc.org), the new graduate student living community provides luxurious apartment accommodations that include a combination of single- and double-occupancy apartment units. The majority of the 202 units are two-bedroom, two-bath apartments and are located in a single building with controlled access. The students will benefit from the high level of amenities such as a fitness center, community pool, study rooms, yoga studio, business center, complimentary coffee bar and valet services.

The Daumier is the result of a public/private partnership with the City of Pomona, the Vehicle Parking District, Hanover Pacific and Provident Resources Group, along with the support of WesternU. Hanover Pacific worked over a year with the City of Pomona to establish the public/private partnership, resulting in Hanover Pacific’s ability to procure a very strategic parcel of land as it sits nearly ‘on-campus’ and adjacent to one of the most significant academic buildings on campus, the newly- built 180,000-square-foot Health Education Center, which was part of WesternU’s $100 million campus expansion project. “As a result, we were able to fulfill several needs on campus: student housing need, more academic space needs, and acquisition of a critical piece of land,” said Robert Y. Kim, executive managing director of Irvine-based Hanover Pacific, LLC.

According to Kim, the project was financed with tax-exempt bonds and Provident Resources Group, a national not-for-profit 501(c)(3) with over $1 billion in assets under ownership, is the owner and operator of the Daumier. “The Daumier not only fulfills a vital need for student housing, it also serves as the keystone for the continued revitalization of downtown Pomona and helps promote the further integration of the university with its larger neighborhood community,” Kim said.

“This project is important to the University as well as the community,” said David Senden, a principal with Irvine-based KTGY Group, Inc., and the lead designer on the project. “With the addition of 305 new residents to the downtown, it will strengthen the downtown business district businesses while also creating a true pedestrian-oriented downtown. It also underscores the rising demand for graduate and professional health education.”
