Mayor Gray and Local Business Leaders to Celebrate the Completion of the Adams Morgan Streetscape Project

WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham, District Department of Transportation (DDOT) officials, Federal Highway Administration officials, representatives from the business community and residents will mark the completion of the Adams Morgan Streetscape Project.

Post-Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Reception – Grand Central, 2447 18th St., NW

BACKGROUND: The $6.8 million, 17-month project reconstructed the 18th Street NW corridor in Adams Morgan from Florida Avenue NW to Columbia Road NW. The entire roadway was reconstructed, with utility upgrades underground and significant infrastructure, safety and aesthetic improvements at street level (including wider sidewalks, shared bike lanes, pedestrian islands and bump-outs, 59 new trees, 71 new bike racks, 32 globe streetlights and solar-powered trash compactors. DDOT also reconfigured the intersection at 18th and Florida to make it safer for all users.

PHOTO OPP: Following the program, Mayor Gray, DDOT officials and members of the business community will mark the completion of the project by cutting a ribbon. Afterwards, Mayor Gray and DDOT Director Terry Bellamy will walk the project area to look at the new streetscape improvements and will visit retail shops in the area to greet the owners and thank them for their patience while the project was under construction.
