MHP Congratulates Artie Harris on County Planning Board Chair Appointment
Silver Spring, MD, – RealEstateRama – MHP, a leading nonprofit affordable housing developer, congratulates Vice President of Real Estate Artie Harris on his appointment as Chair of the Montgomery County Planning Board. This significant achievement reflects the expertise Harris has gained through his work at MHP and beyond, and the trusted reputation he has built in the community.
In the fourteen years Harris has been with MHP, the organization has benefited from his well-informed perspective, industry experience, and ability to work with multiple stakeholders to move complex projects forward.
Harris has played a pivotal role in advancing MHP’s mission to provide quality affordable housing options for low- and moderate-income individuals and families. Under his leadership, we have successfully acquired numerous properties including Rollingwood Apartments and the Residences at Forest Glen. Harris has also overseen major renovations such as 515 Thayer and ground-up developments such as The Bonifant. Many other projects in MHP’s past and current pipeline were made possible through Harris’s exceptional efforts, and under his leadership, MHP added 1,700 homes to our portfolio. He has been a key part of MHP’s vision for expanding the type of development work we do, including senior housing, homeownership housing, and new construction.
Harris’s appointment as County Planning Board Chair not only recognizes his individual accomplishments but also reinforces the importance of affordable housing as a critical element of sustainable urban planning. We are confident that he will utilize his expertise, vision, and collaborative approach to steer the county’s planning initiatives towards a more inclusive, resilient, and vibrant future.
“Artie Harris’s extensive experience in affordable housing and his deep understanding of what it takes to build an inclusive community will bring immense value to our county’s development strategies and foster equitable growth,” said MHP President Robert A. Goldman. “While he leaves big shoes to fill at our organization, we are excited that he will broaden his impact in his new role as the County Planning Board Chair.”
“I am deeply proud of MHP and all we have been able to accomplish,” said Harris. “Since 2009, it has been a great privilege to grow in my career and serve our community together. MHP listens to the community, works effectively with a variety of stakeholders, and stays true to its vision, making it a trusted partner. I hope that I will be able to bring these qualities to my new role, working on behalf of community members at every level of the economic spectrum.”
During this transition period, MHP remains committed to upholding our mission and serving our communities. We have a robust succession plan in place to ensure a seamless continuation of operations. Our dedicated team, under the guidance of President Robert A. Goldman, will work closely to maintain the momentum and impact we have achieved together.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Harris on this significant accomplishment. As a nonprofit affordable housing developer, we are proud to witness our Vice President assume this pivotal leadership position, and we eagerly anticipate the positive changes he will bring to our county’s planning initiatives.
