Rep. Miller says V2I language is critical to advancing cutting-edge driver safety technology

WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 21, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure introduced a 6-year highway reauthorization bill, the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015, which includes a Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) provision authored by Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) to assist with the advancement of V2I technologies that improve road safety:

Representative Miller on introduction of a 6-year highway reauthorization legislation:“Michigan, the heartland of American innovation, has long led the nation in automotive innovation and safety, with the Big Three and MDOT constantly employing cutting-edge technologies, like sensors that allow vehicles to communicate with roadway infrastructure and alert drivers of critical road safety information. These V2I technologies are undoubtedly the next frontier of automotive safety, which is why, earlier this Congress, I introduced legislation that ensures state and federal highway safety initiatives across the country can keep pace. Specifically, my legislation authorizes states to use federal resources to integrate these lifesaving technologies in road infrastructure. Today, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure introduced a long-term highway reauthorization bill which includes my V2I language, as well as provisions that improve and modernize our nation’s highway infrastructure. This bill is an important first step in integrating these critical technological advancements.”

Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (PA-9): “One of our goals in this bill is to encourage innovation in the improvement of our nation’s infrastructure, and Rep. Miller was a champion of the V2I provision included in the legislation.  I thank her for her work on the issue of the future of road safety, and I look forward to working with her to move this important bill forward.”
