Murray On New Federal Housing Vouchers for Homeless Veterans in WA State: We Owe This to Our Veterans

A total of 41 housing vouchers will help veterans across the state
These are the latest round of vouchers from program Murray helped restart in 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 11, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of both the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development and the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, announced new resources to help homeless veterans secure stable housing. Washington state will receive an additional 41 housing vouchers that will be distributed among three different housing authorities, part of a $6.4 million grant to help veterans around the country.

The vouchers are part of the joint Department of Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH program), a program Murray helped restart in 2008 and which she has continued to help fund every year since.  Through the program, homeless veterans receive vouchers through HUD, and case management and services through the VA.

“Today’s announcement marks yet another step toward combating the problem of veteran homelessness in Washington state and around the country,” Senator Murray said. “I’m proud to fight for this program year after year because the men and women who served our country deserve our support long after the war is over, and while we’ve made real progress in recent years, I will keep pushing for more support until not a single veteran is forced to sleep on the streets.”
