MWV & The Rockefeller Group Announce Construction of First Building at Nexton™

SUMMERVILLE, SC – February 21, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV) and The Rockefeller Group today began construction on the first building to be developed in the 4,500 acre master planned community, Nexton. The 100,000-square-foot building is designed to achieve LEED® certification and will be situated at the entry point of the Class A campus that will include offices, hotels, apartments, parks and trails, and many choices for dining, entertainment and shopping.

Strategically located at I-26 and US Highway 17A, between exit 199 and the future exit 197, Nexton is a community planned for the way people live today and with an eye towards tomorrow.

Summerville’s Mayor Bill Collins praised the project. “Summerville continues to grow rapidly. That growth needs to be managed properly to assure that our quality of life in the Flowertown is not diminished. MWV’s comprehensive Nexton project should be a game changer for our town and the region. MWV’s corporate office will be the largest single office building permitted in Summerville in recent memory and the first Class A space in our town. I salute MWV on this milestone and look forward to seeing other commercial buildings in Nexton come to fruition.”

Berkeley County Supervisor Dan Davis lauded the project’s impact on the growth of the County. “Today’s groundbreaking is another step in bringing jobs to Berkeley County. With Nexton’s proximity to the Jedburg Distribution Cluster and the new 197 interchange slated to open in the future, the County and the Region are ideally positioned for strong economic growth. We are looking forward to more announcements as the year progresses.”

The four-story building will feature contemporary design, LED external lighting and native plants in the landscaping. High efficiency vehicle spaces in prime locations will be provided along with bike racks to encourage alternative modes of transportation. A portion of the Class A office space will house MWV Community Development and Land Management, while the remaining office space will be available for lease through Colliers International.
