NAHB Announces Finalists for Apartment and Condo Awards

Washington, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — Adaptive reuse, plentiful amenities and sustainable and green building practices were some of the trademarks found in this year’s finalists for the 2017 Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards, which honor superior achievement in apartment and condominium development, design, marketing and management and are sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

“Today’s consumers have almost unlimited possibilities when choosing a multifamily community, so builders and developers must go above and beyond in this competitive market to attract customers,” said Steven E. Lawson, president of The Lawson Companies in Virginia Beach, Va., and vice chairman of NAHB’s Multifamily Council. “This year’s finalists represent some of the best our industry has to offer, we commend these companies for their ingenuity and forward-thinking approaches to the multifamily industry.”

The industry experts who judged the competition found that many of the finalists incorporated a variety of unique amenities for their residents, including dog washing stations, game rooms with a twist and upgraded fitness rooms. Many of the finalists also renovated old buildings that were previously used for another purpose other than housing, and were still able to keep the charm of the original structure. The multifamily industry has long been known for its commitment to sustainable and green building practices, and the finalists were able to incorporate these elements into many facets of their communities, including rain gardens, green roofs and on-site car and bike sharing programs.

A panel of 11 multifamily industry veterans selected finalists in 27 categories, along with an overall Multifamily Community of the Year, with awards categories ranging from excellence in building and marketing to individual and corporate achievement. These finalists represent 175 different organizations with projects located in 26 states.
