WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — Members of the National Association of Home Builders are celebrating Professional Women in Building (PWB) Week Sept. 12 – 16. The goals of PWB Week are to highlight the many contributions women make to the residential construction industry and offer an opportunity for PWB members to share the value of council membership.
“NAHB Professional Women in Building Week provides a platform for our industry to recognize and honor the important role women play in the residential construction industry,” said Cindy Cepko, CGP, CMP, MIRM, Master CSP, chair of the NAHB PWB Council and co-owner of Granite Homes Inc. in Paupack, Pa. “Women have long been in this field, but now we want to put a spotlight on them and highlight their contributions.”
Members across the country will celebrate in a variety of ways, including holding events to honor achievements of local members, fundraisers to create scholarships for women entering the industry and by teaching building skills to local school children.
“We also want to emphasize to school-aged girls and women who aren’t currently in the industry that the home building industry can be a great career choice with many different options to choose from,” said Cepko. “Whether it’s an architect, a remodeler, a sales agent, a builder or so on, there truly is something for everyone in this field.”
The NAHB PWB Council recently surveyed female members of the federation and found that 57 percent of respondents own their own company, while one-third of respondents hold the title of president. Businesses represented by respondents include: finance, building material dealer/distributor, land development, single-family home building, sub-contractor, residential remodeling, marketing and advertising and design.
