National Call for Entries: 16th Annual MetLife Foundation Awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing
Competition to Focus on Green and Service Enriched Senior Housing
COLUMBIA, MD – April 19, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The 16th Annual MetLife Foundation Awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing is officially open for entries. Enterprise Community Partners, Inc. and MetLife Foundation have focused this year’s competition on best practices in the area of green and service-enriched affordable housing for seniors. The deadline for entries is May 31, 2011.
“Decent affordable housing is needed in all sectors of our community, but housing for seniors is among the most urgent,” said Melinda Pollack, vice president, Enterprise Community Partners. “Having a healthy, green environment and supportive services where the elderly can age in place and be well cared for are critical aspects for those who enter this competition. We thank MetLife Foundation for partnering with us to highlight the best examples in the field.”
Started in 1995, the program has honored 89 affordable housing developers and service providers across the country and has awarded more than $1.5 million to the winners. Created to showcase models of excellence in design, supportive services, operations and property management in affordable senior housing, the Excellence in Affordable Housing competition has consistently offered the winning organizations support and recognition for their work. This year, the four winning organizations will receive $50,000 each in unrestricted funds, recognition at the annual conference of Leading Age (formerly the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging), a commemorative plaque and recognition at a local event. Entries must be from recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and Tribes/Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs). Each entry will also need to include information on innovation in supportive services and green building technology.
Submissions for the 2011 MetLife Foundation Awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing must be received via online application by midnight Pacific Standard Time, Tuesday, May 31. The awards will be presented to the four winning organizations in the fall.
