WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 25, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — The National Green Building Standard™ Commentary, the companion publication to the ANSI-approved 2012 ICC-700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS), is now available for purchase through BuilderBooks.com, the publishing arm for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), in both print and eBook formats.
Released last month during the 2014 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, the Commentary provides valuable insight to the intention and implementation of the practices and provisions found in the Standard. Developed with the input of members of the ICC 700-2012 Consensus Committee who developed the Standard, the Commentary is a useful resource for any building professional using the ICC 700-2012 as a rating system for developing or renovating residential properties of all types, to reduce their relative environmental impact. The Commentary reflects all the changes made to the 2012 NGBS.
“To date, nearly 32,000 homes and residential lots have been certified to the NGBS by Home Innovation Research Labs, and that number continues to grow,” said NAHB Chairman Kevin Kelly, a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del. “This new companion publication makes the process of building to the Standard even easier, by giving building professionals an in-depth look at the different components, and the reasoning behind these provisions.”
The Commentary expands on the compliance language in the NGBS, to further explain the Standard’s:
Scope and Administration
Compliance method for all its applications including single-family and multifamily new construction, renovation and additions and green subdivision development
Requirements and prescriptions for site design and development, resource efficiency and indoor environment quality, among others
