Neugebauer Named Chairman of Housing Subcommittee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – January 28, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — >Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) was appointed Chairman of the Financial Services Committee’s Housing and Insurance Subcommittee in the U.S. House of Representatives for the next two years. The Democrats selected Rep. Michael E. Capuano, of Massachusetts, to be the Ranking Member.

Rep. Neugebauer (pronounced Naw-guh-bow-er), age 63, represents Texas’ 19th congressional district, which includes a large swath of West Texas, including Lubbock and Abilene. A graduate of Texas Tech University, Rep. Neugebauer was elected to Congress after winning a special election in 2003.

According to a 2011 National Journal survey, Rep. Neugebauer is the most conservative member in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Insurance and Housing Subcommittee that he now chairs has jurisdiction over FHA policy matters, including HECM.

Like his mother, Rep. Neugebauer has long been involved in the real estate business, having served as president of the development company Lubbock Land before his election to Congress. He is a former president of the Texas Association of Builders from 1996 to 1997. From 1992 to 1998, Rep. Neugebauer was a Lubbock city councilman. He was mayor pro tempore from 1994 to 1996.
