WASHINGTON, D.C. – RealEstateRama – Housing is in the headlines again this morning, as the government announces a new task force to unlock thousands of new homes on surplus public land. The new partnership approach will explore new delivery models, establish collaborative agreements between the Ministry of Defence, Homes England, Network Rail and other government bodies.
Responding to the news CIH’s interim director of policy, communications and public affairs, Rachael Williamson, said:
“Unlocking surplus public land for new homes is a positive step toward addressing the country’s housing challenges. Ensuring land is available and ready for development is critical, and efforts to remove barriers that have slowed progress in the past are very welcome.
“Long-term collaboration between government departments, Homes England, and the private sector will be key to accelerating delivery. However, to truly tackle the housing crisis, there must be a strong emphasis on delivering homes of all tenures, particularly genuinely affordable social housing, alongside the necessary infrastructure and services to create sustainable communities and the right levels of government grant to support development.
“We look forward to further details in the government’s forthcoming long-term housing strategy, particularly on how this initiative will support housing delivery which is accessible to those who need it most.”
