Best in American Living™ Awards Shine a Spotlight on Top Design Trends for 2017...
A remarkable 129 single-family, multifamily, interior design, remodeling and community projects were honored at the 2017 Best in American Living™ Awards (BALA) ceremony held during the 2018 National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla. Judges awarded eight Best in Region, five Of the Year and two Judges’ Discretionary awards. In addition, one Game Changer award was given as well as one “Wow!” award, a special award given to a project with a one-of-a-kind design detail. These projects represent the nation’s best in home and community design, interior design and remodeling.
Walkable Raleigh Neighborhood Named Community of the Year in National Design Competition
Oakdale at Mordecai, a neighborhood of new single-family homes in a revitalized area of Raleigh, N.C., was named the Community of the Year in the 2017 Best in American Living Awards (BALA) today by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Nestled between two historic districts near downtown, Oakdale’s architecture was designed to fit the aesthetic of the surrounding area while also including popular modern features.

New Home Sales Hit Post-Recession High in November
Sales of newly built, single-family homes in November rose 17.5 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 733,000 units from a downwardly revised October reading, according to newly released data by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau. This is the highest sales pace since July 2007. Year-to-date, new home sales are 9.1 percent above their level over the same period last year
Single-Family Starts Rise in Line with Builder Confidence
Nationwide housing starts rose 3.3 percent in November to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.297 million units after a downwardly revised October reading, according to newly released data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Commerce Department. This month’s reading is a post-recession high.
Builders Confident as Market Primed to Expand in 2018
Builder confidence in the market for newly-built single-family homes increased five points to a level of 74 in December on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) after a downwardly revised November reading.
