Norton Statement on the Loss of D.C. Resident and Firefighter Lt. Kevin McRae
WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 7, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today released the following statement on the tragic death of District of Columbia resident Lt. Kevin McRae, a 24-year veteran of the DC Fire and EMS Department, who died in the line of duty while battling a fire in a 7th Street NW apartment building in the Shaw neighborhood this morning. The Congresswoman placed a call to Lt. McRae’s wife to offer her condolences.
“The District of Columbia is in mourning today after losing one of our most dedicated firefighters in the line of duty. After spending his professional life serving the residents of the District, Lt. Kevin McRae’s last heroic act of service to our residents will not be forgotten in our city. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with his family and loved ones, along with Engine 6. I am particularly heartbroken for the McRae family, who in 2007 lost a cousin in the line of duty, James McRae, who was also D.C. firefighter. As a proud granddaughter of a D.C. firefighter, my family and I know how our city’s firefighters put their lives on the line each and every day to protect their fellow citizens and willingly give all they have for our residents, as Lt. McRae did.”
