OVER 270 MAYORS FROM ACCROSS THE US DECLARE SUPPORT FOR YOUTHBUILD

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 7, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Gathering at the 83rd Annual Conference of Mayors in San Francisco at the end of June, over 270 mayors affirmed their support for YouthBuild as a critically important program in communities nationwide, and called for expansion of funding essential for reconnecting young people to education, work, and community service.

“We are so thankful for the mayors’ renewed support for YouthBuild,” said Dorothy Stoneman, founder and CEO of YouthBuild USA, Inc. “In cities and communities across the country, YouthBuild staff and students are rebuilding lives and communities every single day. Our model creates opportunity and prepares so many young people for a more successful future by focusing on leadership development and community service—and several of these mayors see the impact our model can have firsthand in their own cities.”

Sponsored by Newton, Massachusetts, Mayor Setti Warren, the resolution highlights YouthBuild as a key program across the country and abroad that helps low-income young people reclaim their education, gain skills needed for employment, and become leaders in their own communities.

“As Chair of the U.S. Conference Community Development and Housing Committee, I have seen time and time again the impact multifaceted programs like YouthBuild can have on individuals and communities,” said Mayor Warren. “YouthBuild is an outstanding example of the power of wraparound service delivery that combines soft and hard skills training, academic achievement, community service and social support—all key to an individual’s success and future. Cities and communities across our country depend on YouthBuild, which is why expanding the funding and bringing it back up to at least its FY10 level is so critical in providing our young people with the opportunities and chances to succeed. We cannot have one more young person turned away from programs that can make a difference in their life due to a lack of funding.”
