WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 19, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett attended a small roundtable discussion at the White House with select Members of Congress, Administration officials and private sector companies to discuss renewable energy initiatives in low-income communities on June 17.

Plaskett said the discussion was an opportunity for the stakeholders to discuss the President’s upcoming initiatives to “super charge” activity in renewable energy for areas that have not seen the benefit in the past.

The White House affirmed its commitment to bring federal initiatives to drive solar deployment in low-income communities and in affordable housing.

“I was thankful to be invited by the Administration with five other Members of Congress to the roundtable. I was able to use the roundtable as an opportunity to reiterate the importance of decreasing energy costs in the territory and also to remind the participants of our challenges and how critically important the assistance of the Administration will be in jumpstarting our sustainable energy efforts. The discussion was an opportunity to acquaint the private sector participants with the sophisticate understanding, able workforce, and prime incubation the Virgin Islands presents to the industry as a point of entry into the Caribbean,” Plaskett said.

The June 17 roundtable is the first in series of meetings the Obama Administration will have on driving sustainable Energy in communities. Plaskett said the businesses and residents of the U.S. Virgin islands are interested in the Administration’s initiatives and that she is pleased to represent the interests of the people of the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean in the discussions.

“Both businesses and residents alike are interested in the outcome of the President’s initiatives to increase renewable energy in not only the Virgin Islands, but also the remainder of the Caribbean,” Plaskett said.
