Protecting Families from Double Digit Energy Bill Hikes

WASHINGTON, DC – June 25, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement today commending House passage of the Ratepayer Protection Act (H.R. 2042), introduced by Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-KY):

“The Obama administration’s EPA is handing down a slew of new rules with absolutely no regard for the hardworking families who will be footing the bill. New regulations on power producers alone could drive electricity bills up by double digits in some areas, compromise grid reliability, and destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs. The low and middle-income families who will be hit hardest can’t afford it, nor can the manufacturers and Main Street businesses that rely on affordable energy to keep Americans working. What we’ve done today is simply a matter of common sense. We’ve given states more time to plan ahead for these rules, in light of the ongoing legal challenges they face. And we’ve given them the ability to opt out if they find the new rules will have a significant, adverse impact on the economy or grid reliability. Americans’ priorities are our priorities, and we’ll continue working to advance solutions to help working families, not Washington bureaucrats.”
