Rebuilding Together and Lowe’s to Complete Kickoff to Rebuild Project, Super Bowl XLIX Event in Phoenix
PHOENIX, Ariz., – January 28, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — – Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit that helps improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners, will team up with Lowe’s to provide critical home repairs and help revitalize Phoenix’s Fillmore neighborhood for the 20th annual Kickoff to Rebuild, a Super Bowl XLIX-sanctioned event.
The rebuild event Jan. 29-30 will be held in collaboration with Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun and Carter’s Kids Foundation.
In celebration of the 20th Kickoff to Rebuild project, hundreds of volunteers worked during the fall of 2014 to provide critical home repairs in three Phoenix neighborhoods. The project series will culminate with nearly 100 Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers and other partner volunteers providing free critical repairs to three homes and installing a new Carter’s Kids playground for the Crisis Nursery emergency shelter as part of a $230,000 Lowe’s grant.
Since 2007, Lowe’s has contributed more than $12 million to Rebuilding Together to improve local communities. With the help of Lowe’s Heroes, Lowe’s and Rebuilding Together have renovated and rehabilitated nearly 1,500 homes and assisted more than 14,000 individuals, providing low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners with critical repairs, accessibility and safety modifications and energy-efficiency updates.
“Lowe’s works closely with our partners to provide funding and volunteer support to strengthen communities across the country,” said Joan Higginbotham, Lowe’s director of community relations. “Through our partnership with Rebuilding Together, we’re able to impact an entire community by helping families live in safe and healthy homes.”
The home repairs will improve the safety and health of homes for seniors and families who have lived in the neighborhood for more than 50 years. Volunteers will help local residents like Beatriz, who is 101 years old and remains in her home through the help of her daughter but needs assistance with maintenance and repairs. Beatriz’s home will receive a new stove, safety repairs in the bathroom and a fresh coat of exterior paint. These improvements will help ensure she is able to remain in her home for the rest of her life.
Volunteers will work alongside Carter Oosterhouse, founder of the Carter’s Kids Foundation, to finish construction of the playground.
“I am truly excited to partner with Lowe’s and our other partners for this special Kickoff to Rebuild project,” said Sandra Henriquez, chief operating officer, Rebuilding Together. “It is partnerships like this that give volunteers the opportunity to transform communities and provide much needed critical repairs to the homes of long-time residents.”
Other project supporters include Bank of America, Bose, CBRE, Chicanos Por La Causa, DirecTV, FedEx and NextGen Home.
