RE/MAX Strengthens Long Drive Partnership
Will Continue As Title Sponsor for the Record-Shattering Golf Competition
Denver, CO – March 15, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — RE/MAX LLC, the title sponsor for the World Long Drive Championship, will continue to headline power golf’s premier event. RE/MAX has signed an agreement for 2013 and 2014, with an option for 2015. This year, 2012, marks the 18th year of collaboration between the real estate company and Long Drivers of America (LDA).
“This is one of the world’s most competitive sports and it draws in golfers and fans from all over the world,” said Mike Reagan, RE/MAX Senior Vice President, Business Alliances. “It’s been exciting to watch the event grow over the years and to marvel at the skill and ability of these athletes. It’s truly amazing to see drives over 400 yards.”
The relationship dates back to 1995, when RE/MAX teamed with LDA to produce the RE/MAX North America Long Drive Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament moved to Mesquite, Nevada for the 1997 finals and was renamed the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.
Each year, thousands of golfers from dozens of countries enter local and regional competitions with the hope of making to the finals in Mesquite. In 2012, those local events will narrow the field to around 330 hopefuls who will head to Mesquite to compete for a $500,000 purse in seven divisions during the championship week, October 16 – 25.
This year’s divisions are: Masters – age 65+, Legends – age 60+, Grand Champions– age 55+, Super Seniors – age 50+, Seniors – 45+, Open – no age restrictions and Ladies – no age restrictions.

About the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship:
The RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship evolved out of the National Long Drive Championship, which began in 1975. It has grown from a mostly low-key event to one that includes golfers from virtually every corner of the world. The Long Drive Finals are broadcast live on the internet on ESPN3.com and also tape-delayed to air on ESPN each year during the Christmas season.
2012 is the eighteenth year that RE/MAX has sponsored the event. In the early years, drives of 325 yards gave hitters a chance of finishing “in the money.” Today, hitters typically need to drive the ball at least 350 to 360 yards to advance to qualifying rounds.
