Senators Collins and King Announce More Than $400,000 in Grant Funding to Assist Maine Families Living in Public Housing

WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 01, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Susan Collins, the Chairman the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development, and Angus King today announced that several housing authorities and municipalities in Maine will receive a total of $439,537 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grant funding will come through HUD’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program and will be used to help public housing residents and individuals participating in the Housing Choice Voucher Program increase their education and gain marketable skills that will allow them to find employment and advance in their current work.

“Public Housing Authorities in Maine play an indispensable role in helping some of our most vulnerable citizens find safe and affordable housing,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “This funding will provide crucial support to individuals and families across our state, connecting them with a range of job training and educational services.”

HUD’s Family Self Sufficiency program intends to help low-income families who receive federal housing assistance receive training and education, find jobs, save money, and eventually become financially independent.
