Tampa, FL – February 20, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Heavy snowfall, icy conditions, and freezing temperatures are likely for property owners in the Rockies, southeast and northeast in the next few days. As people throughout the country prepare for the oncoming dangerous winter weather, the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), a national research and communications organization, offers a last-minute winter weather checklist to help property owners prepare before it’s too late.
Extreme winter weather is the third-largest cause of insured catastrophe losses after hurricanes and tornadoes, according to the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I). Losses from snow, ice, freezing and related causes averaged $1.2 billion annually over the past 20 years.
IBHS urges home and business owners likely impacted by frigid temperatures and significant snowfall to understand the various winter alerts and stay tuned to National Weather Service advisories.
